House of Leaves
I heard about this on four chan’s paranormal forum, referred to as the genesis of a lot of the writing that gets passed around there. All of the writing from the main character’s perspective is pretty terrible, in a way that really seems unintentional. And the academic parody is pretty thinly done, although the book does kind of address that.
Really, even if the whole thing is written poorly it’s so ambitious that it cannot be bad. It takes itself seriously, to the point of success. I don’t know if it really affected me, but it’s form makes it worthwhile.
